Simon Barden

Chief Executive Officer & Founder

After graduating with a degree in engineering Simon's passion for marine and environmental conservation was sparked in 2002 when he joined a Central American conservation project as a volunteer.

Since then Simon has traveled the world, visiting over 46 countries, working as a PADI Dive Instructor in Honduras, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, Fiji and Philippines. Gaining qualifications as a PADI Dive Instructor, a Master Scuba Diving Trainer and Emergency First Responder Instructor along the way.

He has spent over 5 years on conservation expeditions in Fiji, Central America, Tobago and the Philippines, initially as a volunteer, then as a scuba diving instructor and then taking on the full on-site project management and responsibilities as expedition leader staff member.

Simon's commitment to conservation, environmental protection and making a real difference to the issues facing coastal communities around the world led him to set up Barefoot Conservation.

As a keen photographer, Simon's travels have given him the perfect subject material to develop this passion and his photographs can be seen throughout the site.

His travel essentials include Tetley teabags, a bottle of brown sauce and his camera.
